MEB Awarded Navy Contract for Jet Fuel Tank Replacement in Jacksonville, FL

Chesapeake, VA. MEB General Contractors has been awarded a $22.3 million contract for replacement of fuel storage tanks at the Fleet & Industrial Supply Center in Jacksonville, Florida. The contract was awarded by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command Southeast (NAVFAC Southeast), and MEB was selected on the basis of a competitive “Best Value” process, which includes evaluation of both price and qualifications.  As part of the Naval Supply Systems Command (NAVSUP), FISC Jacksonville is a single point provider of supply chain and logistics products and services for all Naval activities throughout the southeast region, from North Carolina to Texas to Cuba.

The project will replace aging fuel tanks and is scheduled for completion in 2012. MEB will demolish seven above grade fuel storage tanks and construct five new 80,000 barrel JP-5 tanks. The existing underground piping will be demolished and replaced with a new above grade system. The new tanks will be constructed in the “footprint” of the existing tanks after their demolition. The project has a three-year duration and is phased to ensure the facility can maintain its fueling operations.

MEB’s experience in specialized government facility construction has expanded along the East Coast in recent years. The company is also contracted for the fuel replacement project currently ongoing at Craney Island, the U.S. Navy’s largest fuel facility with more than 1000 acres of above and below ground fuel storage tanks. All work will be completed under the Navy’s extensive and stringent construction quality control, inspection and testing program.

MEB General Contractors is one of the most experienced and respected providers of construction services in the Hampton Roads region, the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
