MEB General Contractors Partners with Timmons Group and Southampton County to Build Waste Water Treatment Plant

Chesapeake, VA. MEB is constructing the Courtland Waste Water Treatment Plant in Southampton County as a Public-Private project contracted through the Commonwealth’s PPEA legislation. The Public-Private Education and Infrastructure Act (PPEA) of 2002 allows private sector businesses to partner with public entities, utilizing their expertise on public projects to save time and money. The law created resources to fund a comprehensive range of public projects and encourages innovative approaches to financing such work. MEB partnered with Timmons Group engineers to submit an unsolicited proposal to Southampton County in an effort to meet their growing waste water needs.

The $27 Million project is currently six months ahead of schedule and will be complete in 2010. The Courtland project allowed for a design/build approach that saved the County many months of time from the traditional planning of a municipal project. Design and construction are overlapped to fast-track the schedule and produce significant time savings. The existing waste water facility was at capacity and under pressure to expand by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality. The ongoing work meets the current needs and allows for future growth. An added benefit to the project has been the positive economic stimulus experienced by the local economy. MEB has (8) employees currently living in Southampton County and is also utilizing local subcontractors, suppliers and labor from the predominately rural area.

MEB General Contractors is one of the most experienced and respected providers of construction services in the Hampton Roads region, the Commonwealth of Virginia and throughout the Mid-Atlantic.
